چکیده

A study of the distribution of S35 in the rat, 14 to 16 hours after the intraperitoneal administration of sodium sulfate, labeled with S35, has been reported by Singher and Marinelli (1). Of particular interest is their observation that the highest concentration of the radioactive sulfur was found in the bone marrow. This observation stimulated us to determine the change with time in the concentration of $Y5, given as labeled sodium sulfate, in the bone marrow of the rat and to relate this changing concentration with the concentration in other tissues, particularly the blood. Only a brief report (2) was found in the literature on the excretion in urine of Ss5 ingested as sodium sulfate. The rate of excretion of S35 in the urine and feces of rats after intraperitoneal injection of labeled sodium sulfate was, therefore, also determined.

The urinary excretion of mercapturic acids after administration of bromobenzene and 3,4-benzpyrene.

In a previous communication (1) it was shown that the rat forms some mercapturic acid from simultaneously administered radioactive i@-cystine and bromobenzene. The major portion of the excreted mercapturic acid was derived from un labeled tissue sulfur compounds. On the other hand, no evidence could be found for the excretion of a labeled conjugate from 3,4-benzpyrene and L-cystine. In addition...

Radioautographic Studies of Sulfate-sulfur (s35) Metabolism in the Articular Cartilage and Bone of Suckling Rats

Fifteen minutes after intraperitoneal injection of sulfur-35 as sodium sulfate to 7-day-old rats the concentration of the isotope was highest in the cartilage at the epiphyseal-diaphyseal junction of long bones but was demonstrable throughout the entire epiphysis. Up to the 24th hour the pattern of deposition did not change as the concentration continued to increase. As centers of secondary oss...

Sulfate-sulfur Metabolism in the Rat Fetus as Indicated by Sulfur-35

Twenty-four hours after the intraperitoneal injection of sodium sulfate-S(35) into pregnant rats, sulfur-35 was found in the embryos. The amount of the sulfur-35 retained by the embryos was directly related to their degree of development in utero. A large fraction of the sulfur-35 found in the embryos was insoluble in 5 per cent trichloroacetic acid. At the 9th to 10th day of development, about...

The protective effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) against iron-induced functional and histological damages in rat liver and kidney

Objective: Iron overload in the body is related with toxic effects and threatens the health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the protective role of hydroalcoholic extract of ginger (Zingiber officinale) against ferrous sulfate-induced hepatic and renal functional disorders and histological damages in rats. Materials and Methods: The rats were divided into four groups (n=7): Sham, Sham + G...

Use of sulfate production as a measure of short-term sulfur amino acid catabolism in humans.

There is no fully satisfactory method for measuring amino acid catabolism in the nonsteady state that follows normal protein consumption. Because sulfate is the major product of sulfur amino acid catabolism, we tested whether its production can be accurately depicted using simple tracer or nontracer approaches under basal conditions and after the intravenous administration of a known amount of ...
